Restoring networks and systems to their stable state after catastrophic event has been a major challenge for many network and systems engineers. The main reason behind this challenge is lack of enough capacity and skills to go beyond normal ICT operations. Realizing this deficiency, and in the quest to digitally transform the university, Mzumbe University (MU) requested a customized training for their network and systems services team. On the week of 11th November TERNET conducted a 5-day hands-on training to build MU capacity in network monitoring, management, and recovery.
The training covered five major areas: introduction to network management, network monitoring and IP management, network security and management, logs management and server hardening, and traffic monitoring and management. The training aimed to equip the team with skills and tools for configuration, management and monitoring of the network as it evolves. This will enable the MU team to understand their network and to restore it after a disaster. The training was completed successful and trainees were tested on the skills gained.
